Mud Cloth Pillow | Mali, Africa

Sorry, there are no products in this collection

The mud cloth textile used for these pillows is made in Mali, Africa. Pieces of hand-woven cotton fabric are first sewn together, hand-dyed with leaves and then the symbols are hand-drawn with mud or a bleach, later these pieces are dried in the sun for several days. Through a repetitive dying and washing process the symbols and patterns become more prominent.

One of the many things that make mud cloth special is that each symbol has a meaning and a story to tell, this technique and hidden language was passed from generation to generation and now it is a well appreciated textile used for fashion and home décor globally.
